Supporting a Green Future

The Province of Ontario’s new Green Energy and Economy Act presents unprecedented opportunities and powerful incentives for citizens, businesses, governments and institutions of all kinds to embrace energy efficiency and invest in renewable energy production. As a result, leading institutions across Ontario are setting new standards for renewable energy production and conservation, and the green energy economy is creating new jobs and a wide range of training and skills-building opportunities. For example, municipalities and local energy distribution companies are adopting new policies, businesses are making unprecedented investments, educational institutions are developing new programs, not-for-profit organizations are launching innovative projects, and proactive communities and households are striving to lead the way towards a clean energy economy.

We stand at the brink of a major breakthrough in the Province of Ontario and this is a critical time for people to come together to learn from one another and help usher in a rapid expansion in the green energy economy. In Eastern Ontario, our challenge to build skills for a Green Economy crosses many sectors.

This network enhances the capacity in Eastern Ontario to ensure that institutions are aware of – and encouraged to adopt - best practices that are emerging across the province. It supports businesses and community organizations to create new jobs for the Green Economy and supports awareness of emerging opportunities to access job training and skills-building programs in the region. It also focuses on consumer-demand for green products and services that will act as the sustainable engine for continued growth and expansion, making Eastern Ontario a leader in green energy.
